PAGANISM

Welcome to the Pagan Page!

Clicking the candles lead you to find a Pagan Page!

This page is all about Paganism, Norse, to be more specific. Norse Paganism is pretty much what the Vikings believed in, back when they were around, raiding lands and sailing longboats. After the Vikings 'died' out, a more modern form of Paganism erupted from then to the present time now. This version of Paganism is scattered over the world, in many different countries. It's also a generally much more tame version of the Old Norse ways.

NOTICE!

I won't go into detail what I believe in specifically or what I do in my practices. I'd rather keep my religeon mostly to myself, since it is a private and a personal thing. People believe different things, and I respect them for their religions and beliefs. Please do not email me or leave a comment in the guestbook attacking or belittling me for my beliefs, since I have every right to express my beliefs. :)

I, myself, am Pagan... More specifically, I identify with Rokka, which means I follow monsters of Norse Legend, such as Skoll, Hati, Fenrir, Jormungandr, and Hel. I'm primarily Lokean though, following Loki and Sleipnir. I've been following Loki for about a year now, and I have a whole shrine and altar set up for him. So I thought, what if I develop a little shrine online aswell for Loki? I think personally he'd appreciate the creativity.

Many people I talk to mention that they believe Loki would be an evil God, and that he's bad, comparing him to Satan. I personally think thats a crude misconception, judging a book by it's cover. Loki is a firey God, Lord of monsters, stories, trickery, mischief and burden. He's a creative and cunning soul, and encourages one to be unique and unapologetic. I love offering him poems i wrote and artworks I drew.. I even painted him a lit candle once, (since he IS the God of Fire)...

I think Marvel has led many people to believe that Loki is some dark haired, British, handsome looking guy (Tom Hiddleson lol) with the ability to clone himself and turn blue... when in true legend... Loki is a red-headed goblin. Well, not a goblin.. but a very naughty God. In many depictions, he's thin, pale and sunken, with bright green eyes and long red flaming locks of hair. Sometimes he's depicted with a beard, wether it be long and flowing or a short goatie. He often actually wears dresses, believe it or not, in many modern depictions. He truly is Chaos.

Ouroboros

As you're scrolling and exploring this page, you've probably noticed that big red snake in the middle of the page that spins... (Cool right??) Well, let me introduce you to Jormungandr. Jormungandr, in Norse Legend, is also known as the World Serpent. He is wrapped around Midgard, which is pretty much just Earth (or the mortal realm). He is one of the monsterous children of Loki, and I personally like him alot.

Jormungandr eats his own tail as he swims in the ocean around Midgard, forming an infinite circle as he swallows himself. The myth of Ouroboros is in multiple legends and mythologies, mentioning a large serpent that infinitely circles and consumes itself.

After Jormungandr was born to one of Loki's partners, a giantess named Angrboða, alongside Fenrir the wolf and Hel, the half-deceased girl. When Odin, Loki's blood-brother and the leader of the Gods, discovered the trickster had brought forth monsterous children, he saw a vision. He saw Ragnarok, which is the end of the Nine Realms, and saw Loki's monsterous children destroy and consume.

Odin took the girl, Hel, and banished her to Helheim, where she became the Queen of the Dead. He bound Fenrir in unbreakable chains, and Jormungandr, he threw into the ocean. The serpent grew to an enourmous size, and circled Midgard.

I personally think Jormungandr and his siblings didn't deserve that, but the All Father's visions are mostly true, so I can't really argue. I just think he was a bit mean. :(

Tenets of Loki

Tenet - a principle or belief, especially one of the main principles of a religion or philosophy.

The number Nine is sacred in Norse Legend... The Nine Realms, how Odin hung from Yggdrasil for Nine days and Nine nights, Heimdall's birth from Nine mothers and Thor's final Nine steps after slaying Jormungandr. The Nine Tenets of Loki share the same significance. The Tenets don't have a set origin, but there are theories as to where they came from, such as from how Loki interacted with the Nine Realms, one Tenet for each Realm, or key moments in stories that shape the Tenets, such as Baldur's Death, Loki's Imprisonment, and Ragnarok.

It should be noted that the Tenets are not rules, but guides. I follow them, and consider the impact (both positive and negative) that they have on my life and my behavior.

  1. Truth: Be real. Be true to yourself as much as you are to others. Don't ever apologize for who you are, and do not change yourself for other people.
  2. Humor: Learn to find the humor in all things, especially in yourself. Make jokes and take jokes. Laugh. This is how we learn not to be self-righteous arseholes.
  3. Humility: If you need to tie your balls to a goat to get stuff done, suck it up buttercup. Tough your way through it.
  4. Cunning: Try to think outside the box. Don't make a mess so big that you can't think your way out of it. Be clever.
  5. Transformation: Don't be afraid of change, because that's how we grow. Don't be afraid of self-examination and listen to constructive criticism. Change yourself the way you deem necessary.
  6. Creativity: Create awesome stuff. Try new things out. If you don't like it, blow it up and try again. Create. Draw, make music, dance and sing, write, sew, build, sculpt, craft... create.
  7. Accountability: You are the only one in charge of your own destiny, your own life, and your own actions. Own up to your mistakes and take responsibility. Be ready for consequences for your actions.
  8. Empathy: Try to see things from more than one perspective. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes before you pass judgment. Think about how others feel.
  9. Experimentation: A mistake is only a mistake if you do it twice. Until then, everything is an experiment. Try new things, have fun, step out of your comfort zone.

Creation of Man

“Each of the three gods grants humankind specific attributes: Odin gives önd (breath), symbolizing soul and life-force; Hœnir gives óðr (mind, perception, and spirit); and Lodurr grants lá and litu góða (blood and fair complexion), representing the warmth of life and outward beauty.”

While the most common Norse myth states Odin, Vili, and Vé created the first humans, the figure Lodurr, who is often theorized to be Loki, is said to have given the first humans their spirit, sense, and vitality. According to this theory, Loki, as Lodurr, contributed to the creation of humanity by bestowing upon them heat, color, and life.

Many scholars believe Lodurr is another name for Loki, based on his association with fire and color, and his frequent appearance as a companion to Odin in other myths.
